In 2002 the UNESCO World Heritage committee enhanced the capital’s standing among the already existing eight World Heritage locations in Hungary (Hollókô, Budapest, Pannonhalma, Hortobágy, Pécs, Tokaj, Aggtelek, Lake Fertô).
