„Ecseri” Flea Market Budapest, Nogamstar

TREASURE, TRASH AND TRINKETS AT ECSERI FLEA MARKET, Budapest. The largest second-hand market in Budapest, the flea market on Nagykôrösi Road, may be located some distance from the centre of town and yet most tourists find the journey out there well worth the time. Known by the locals simply as the “Ecseri”, the bustling market is an experience not only for those with a fixed aim but also for those who just want to do some “stall shopping”. more »

About Budapest, Renáta

About BudapestThe city is divided into two parts, the hilly side of Buda on the western bank and the flat plain of Pest on the eastern bank of the river Danube. These two parts of the city were once separate towns and were merged together with Ancient Buda (Óbuda) only in 1873. more »

Along the Ipoly, Friend

The Ipoly (Ipel) – a river running along the border with Slovakia – is a feeder for the Danube. It embraces Borzsony, the mountain that – together with Visegrad – characterises the Danube Bend. The volcanic, 900m-high mountain is covered with typical Hungarian woodland: oak, beech and hornbeam. The Danube-Ipoly National Park contains a diverse range of flora and fauna, including 70 protected plant species and more than a hundred protected types of bird. more »

Antiques Budapest, Nogamstar

Budapest’s street of galleries first began to coalesce just off Margaret Bridge around 10 years ago. A stroll down just two blocks of Falk Miksa Street reveals more than 20 shops and galleries stuffed with bric-abrac, curios and objets d’art. (As an interesting aside, politician and publicist Miksa Falk has gone down in history books as the person who taught Queen Elizabeth, wife of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph, to speak Hungarian.) more »

Budapest, Renáta

Budapest looks its most beautiful at dawn. As the sun slowly rises over the eastern plains, bathing Pest in soft pastel hues, it radiates back from the buildings of Buda as if they were a giant mirror; the windows on Castle Hill positively glisten in golden jubilation. more »

Budapest wolrd heritages, Nogamstar

In 2002 the UNESCO World Heritage committee enhanced the capital’s standing among the already existing eight World Heritage locations in Hungary (Hollókô, Budapest, Pannonhalma, Hortobágy, Pécs, Tokaj, Aggtelek, Lake Fertô). This means that now Andrássy Avenue in Budapest and its historical environs join the Castle district and Danube embankment as holders of the prestigious World Heritage award, although it is true to say that local residents and visitors consider the award fully deserved, Budapest being – in their eyes – one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. more »

Budapest 3 days sightseeing, Nogamstar

Parliament stands head and shoulders above its neighbours on the Pest side of the river. Whether we are talking of its external neo-Gothic appearance or its interior, there is but one word to describe it: stunning. Today it guards the Hungarian Holy Crown, Orb and Sceptre, while the 1004-year-old mantle, another part of the coronation regalia richly embroidered with gold thread, is preserved in the Hungarian National Museum. Not far from Parliament is St. Stephen’s Basilica, the largest ecclesiastical building in Budapest... more »
