The town with 2200 inhabitants can be approached on line Budapest-Nagykanizsa by train, and on main road 7. The airport of Balatonkiliti is 20 km from here, and port of Szántód is in the "next door".
Nations of the ancient world got the profit from good position of this place. First writing remembrance dates back to the XI.th century. We can see the whole lake and the surroundigns from Lucs-tető, which is a loess hill. Széchenyi-family established a holiday-resort here to enjoy this beautiful wiew. It is followed by opening of bathing place, where 40 villas, a bit later at the end of the XIXth century resaturants, a beach, chemist's, post office and health center were wating for guests (mainly from upper classes).

Balatonföldvár has still beautiful parks and greenwoods, for examlple double sicamore-line at Kvassay-sétány, lombardy poplars of Spur street and maples in front of the station.
